Texture Backgrounds

At Scramp Camp we had a terrific class with Connie Andrews, collage artist extraordinaire. Some of the things she taught us I have been shown before, however it's always great to have a refresher course! Connie uses Golden Products, as do many instructors I've had the joy of taking classes with - like Mary Jo McGraw and Kelly Kilmer. Golden has an abundance of gel mediums to get any look.

We made our different backgrounds on separate watercolor paper tags - with the directions on the back. This will enable me to remember what to do in the future :-) I also will be on the lookout for small funky items to use for texture and/or stencils. I do have a very cool "instant texture" package that my friend Sherry made up for a group of us who went together on the Arts de Mer cruise (In Search of Artful Treasure) a couple years back so it will come in really handy.

Some examples of things to use:
  • a variety of sponges
netting - like you see with some produce items
  • "combs" used in faux painting or an old hair comb
  • plastic grids
  • little metal drains (cruise the hardware store)
  • doilies
  • shells
  • koosh balls
